NAME: Brady Hussey
SCHOOL: Covington Catholic High School
SPORT(S): Tennis-Basketball
GRADUATING YEAR: 2024
GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT: All-state tournament team in two sports the same year
BIRTHDATE: 10/31/2005
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'2"-185 lbs.
RESIDENCE: Edgewood, Ky.
PARENT: Bobby & Kara
BIGGEST INFLUENCE: “My mom.”
FUTURE GOAL: Be a professional athlete

Brady Hussey is a two-sport all-star senior at Covington Catholic High School, excelling in both tennis and basketball. He once was named to the state all-tournament team in each sport in the same year, the only CovCath athlete to achieve this honor.

Recently, Brady was named by the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation as the winner of the 11th annual Wah Wah Jones Award, recognizing a male high school senior multi-sport athlete who exemplifies the essence of a student-athlete. The award is named after Wallace Clayton "Wah Wah" Jones, who was an all-state player in basketball, baseball and football at Harlan County and the University of Kentucky. Brady was also named first-team all-NKAC Div. I, with more honors to follow.

From a long-line of elite tennis players in his extended family, Brady is a three-time regional champion and 9th Region Player of the Year. He led the team to the state championship in 2023 and twice he has been a state semi-finalist in singles. CovCath also had a lengthy tennis legacy going into this season, the Colonels had won 19 straight regional team titles.

Brady's mom, Kara Molony Hussey along with his aunt, Lyndsey Molony Maynard, were doubles state champions in 1997, and Kara is a member of the University of Cincinnati Athletic Hall of Fame and the Bearcats all-time winningest player. His aunt Molly Molony Greene was also a state doubles champion in 2001. Brother Austin is a four-time 9th Region singles champion and a 2013 state champion. He played collegiately at the University of Kentucky and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Younger brother, Blake, is a high school freshman who plays basketball and is a top tennis prospect.

In basketball, Brady was the second-highest scorer on the CovCath team, averaging about 14 points a game. He also led the team in three-point shots made on the season and field goal percentage. And was also the second-leading rebounder on the team. He is a 1,000+ point career scorer for the Colonels, who were regional semi finalists this season, finishing with a 26-6 record.

He had many games filling the stat sheet this season -- he scored 15 points in an upset win over Newport, who was ranked #1 in Northern Kentucky in a preseason coaches' poll. He scored 23 points vs. Conner, 19 points vs. Campbell County, including a perfect 5-from-5 from three-point range; in a win over DeSales, he scored 27 points and had four rebounds and four assists; in a win over Archbishop Hoban, he had 21 points, three assists and three steals and in a win over St. Xavier, he scored 23 points and had 19 in a win over St. Henry.

Last season, the Cincinnati High School Sports Awards named Brady as a finalist for both Greater Cincinnati Tennis Player of the Year and Greater Cincinnati Athlete of the Year. He was also NKAC Div. I Basketball Player of the Year.

Brady is undecided which sport to play at the next level and has not yet committed to a university.

A good student (honorable mention academic all-state) who is active in community service, his favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant, favorite entertainer is Kevin Hart, favorite book is The Great Gatsby and most-like-to-meet is Tom Brady.

COACH'S QUOTE – “Brady Hussey is a competitor. He has the highest standards and expectations of himself as an athlete. As a tennis player Brady uses finesse and strength. But his default is strength. Brady has been a joy to coach.”
— Al Hertsenberg, Varsity Tennis Coach
