Mason senior Vignesh Gogineni has had a superlative career in tennis for the Comets with his high school play ending this season with an Ohio state championship in singles.

Success began early for Vignesh. His freshman year on varsity, he finished as the Ohio state Div. I runner-up in doubles with partner Anish Gangavaram. He was named first-team GMC and first-team all-city (Enquirer).

Vignesh entered his senior season with an impressive 33-4 career record in singles and a 12-2 record in doubles. Not only was he the GMC doubles' champion as a freshman, but last season as a junior he was also the GMC singles' champion. He finished the regular season undefeated in first singles, going 4-0 in league play, 9-0 overall, and helped the Comets win a fourth straight GMC title. He went on to win the regional singles' championship and then finished as the runner-up at the Ohio state Div. I individual tournament. He was a finalist for Cincinnati Sports Awards' Tennis Player of the Year and was named to the all-Ohio team by Ohio TennisZone. Vignesh has been ranked as high as number 20 in the USA and number one in Ohio.

This season, Vignesh was undefeated at first singles in the GMC and was named GMC Player of the Year for the second straight season. At the end of April, he won Flight A first singles in the 2022 Coaches Classic. He also won this season's sectional championship and was district runner-up prior to winning the Ohio state singles' crown. One of his career highlights occurred in 2019 when he placed fifth in the nation at the Winter Nationals' competition. In his spare time, he enjoys dancing and fishing as hobbies. A great student with a 4.85 GPA, Vignesh is very active in community service and has committed to play tennis next season at Yale University.

His favorite athlete is Roger Federer, favorite entertainer is Kevin Hart, favorite book is The Great Gatsby, favorite movie is Red Notice and most-like-to-meet is Rafael Nadal.
