                                                A three-year varsity starter in football and basketball, Covington
                                                Catholic quarterback AJ Mayer is a Mr. Kentucky Football candidate and a
                                                nominee for the Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year award.
                                                
  
                                                He entered his senior season with big numbers, in his varsity career
                                                having already passed for 4,435 yards (37 TDs) plus 1,137 yards rushing
                                                (19 TDs.)
                                                
  
                                                Under AJ's leadership, this season Covington Catholic went an undefeated
                                                10-0 during the regular season for the second time in team history,
                                                finishing as the AP's top team in Kentucky Class 5A. AJ and the Colonels
                                                then dispatched Bullitt East 56-14 and Bullitt Central 49-0 in the first
                                                two rounds of the Kentucky Class 5A playoffs before thrashing South
                                                Oldham 49-7 to win the regional championship. AJ so far has thrown for
                                                2,437 yards and 33 touchdowns.
                                                
  
                                                AJ has earned numerous honors, including recently named 1st team
                                                all-NKY. Last season he passed for 2,461 yds. (20 TDs) and rushed for
                                                505 yds. (11 TDs) and was named Kentucky Class 5A District Player of the
                                                Year and 2nd team all-Northern Kentucky. "AJ embodies exactly what a
                                                student-athlete should strive to be," says head football coach Eddie
                                                Eviston. "He is an incredible athlete, a great student, but above all,
                                                an even better young man!"
                                                
  
                                                AJ also played basketball for the Colonels, who were District champs.
                                                Big games included those vs. Newport Catholic (30 points), Dunbar (26
                                                points) and South Laurel (20 points). He was named to the district and
                                                regional all-tournament teams. He also played a year of baseball for the
                                                Colonels.
                                                
  
                                                An academic star and National Honor Society student who is active in
                                                community service, he also is a member of the Covington Catholic Chamber
                                                Choir. AJ will play football collegiately at Miami University in Oxford.
                                                
  
                                                His favorite athlete is Tom Brady, favorite entertainer is Mark
                                                Wahlberg, favorite book is Lone Survivor, favorite movie is Shooter and
