Mason senior Amaya King has ruled the GMC in discus and shot put her entire varsity career. Now a senior, Amaya this season will try to add to her legacy, which already includes three GMC titles in both the discus and shot put, and being named GMC Field Athlete of the Year three straight times.

At the 2017 GMC championships, Amaya set the conference discus record with a throw of 130' 8", besting the second place finisher by more than 12'. She won the shot put, besting the second place finisher by more than 11'. She was also district and regional champ in the shot put.

At last year's Ohio state track & field championships, Amaya was Ohio runner-up in the shot put and 12th in the state in discus. She earned many awards, including being named Cincinnati Div.I Field Athlete of the Year (Enquirer) and Dick's Sporting Goods' GMC Field Athlete of the Year.

Just last month, Amaya won the Ohio indoor state shot put championship. A good student who is active with Matthew 25 Ministries, Amaya will compete collegiately at Purdue University. She is president of the Mason Inclusion Club, a leader in the Women's Empowerment Movement and was co-coordinator of Black History Month.

Her favorite athlete is Michelle Carter, favorite entertainer is Viola Davis, favorite book is Animal Farm, favorite movie is Black Panther and most-like-to-meet is Lupita Nyong'o.
