One of the state's top softball pitchers is Avery Gottlieb, a senior at Oak Hills High School, who, entering this season, already had tossed 13 shutouts and four no-hitters, and had struck out 459 batters in 312.1 innings pitched.

Avery is coming off a great junior campaign in the circle when she led the GMC in wins (23) and strikeouts (227). She finished the season with a 23-5 record with nine shutouts along the way. She had an outstanding 1.09 ERA. She also hit .367 with four home runs and 29 RBI. The Lady Highlanders went 24-5, winning a GMC co-championship, a district championship and finishing as regional runners-up.

She has had a sensational start to this season, too. In the circle, she is an undefeated 20-0, pitching 111.1 innings with 150 strikeouts, eight shutouts and an 1.76 ERA. Her wins and strikeouts lead the GMC. At the dish, she is hitting .554 with 24 RBI.

Avery's accomplishments have earned her numerous honors. She was named GMC Pitcher of the Year last season for the second straight time as well as first-team all-city, first-team all-SWO District and first-team all-state. She leads Oak Hills in number of career wins and is second in school history in career strikeouts, innings pitched, shutouts, ERA, WHIP, starts, complete games and no-hitters. One of her favorite memories of last season was beating Lakota West. "Everyone expected them to win and no one expected us to have a chance until they graduated all their starters," said Avery. "Winning that game 1-0 near the start of the season set the tone for how far I knew we could go." A good student who is active in community service, Avery's favorite athlete is Montana Fouts, favorite entertainer is Kevin Hart, favorite book is Verity by Colleen Hoover, favorite movie is The Ride Along and most-like-to-meet is Joe Burrow. Avery will take her academic and athletic skills to the next level, playing collegiately for Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio. She also plays softball for her club team, the Cincy Doom.

COACH'S QUOTE – "Avery is a leader through her ‘will/want' to be the best. She goes above and beyond which is why she will leave her mark in every program she's a part of."
— Jackie Cornelius, Varsity Softball Coach
