A two-sport all-star, La Salle's senior quarterback Griffin Merritt
leads the hard-charging Lancers with a 7-2 record in the first nine
games. In that time, he has passed for 1,448 yards (2nd in the GCL
South) and eight touchdowns plus has six TDs rushing.
Last year as a junior, Griffin helped lead the team to a 13-2 record,
the Lancers' first outright GCL South title and a third straight Ohio
state Div. II championship. It was the first time ever a Div. II team
had won three straight Ohio state football championships.
He chalked up a conference-leading 1,930 passing yards (21 TDs) plus
he had 229 rushing yards (2 TDs). His six passing touchdowns vs.
Moeller set a school single game record, plus he also ran for a TD.
His honors included being named 1st team GCL South, honorable mention
all-city (Enquirer) and 1st team SWO Ohio District Div. II.
In baseball his junior year, battling some injuries, Griffin hit .305
with 10 RBI, 14 runs scored and a .379 on-base percentage. He was
named 2nd team all-GCL South and will play baseball collegiately at
the University of Cincinnati.
Very active in community service, Griffin is a super student with a
4.48 GPA. His favorite athlete is Aaron Rodgers, favorite book is The
Great Gatsby, favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption and
most-like-to-meet is JJ Watt.
