He will be lacing 'em up next year for Penn State University, but for now senior Evan Mahaffey is a big part of Moeller's drive this season for excellence on the basketball court. He is a major player for a Crusaders' team that finished 20-5 last season and was regional runners-up. The previous year Moeller was denied an attempt at a third straight Ohio Division I championship when the high school basketball season was halted due to the coronavirus. Moeller has won five Ohio state championships in basketball.

Evan comes off a junior campaign in which he averaged 8.1 points a game and 4.8 rebounds a game while shooting a league-leading 62.9% from the field. He also led the Greater Catholic League-South in assists with 3.6 per game, was third in blocks with 1.2 per game and fifth in steals with 1.5 per game.

He had numerous double-digit scoring games last season, including vs. La Salle (16 points), Bishop McLaughlin FL (15 points), Canton McKinley (14 points) and Walnut Hills (13 points). Off to a strong start this season, averaging 16+ points per game, he scored double-doubles with 24 points-11 rebounds vs. Alter, 22 points-12 rebounds vs. Walnut Hills and 18 points-10 rebounds vs. Princeton. Other big games include scoring 23 points with nine rebounds vs. Catholic Central TX, and 29 points-eight rebounds vs. Ponitz.

Evan has earned many honors, including last season when he was GCL South Defensive Player of the Year, first team GCL South, second team all-city, and second team all-SWO District.

Evan is a good student (4.1 weighted GPA) and is active in community service. He also plays basketball for the Indiana Elite basketball team. He has good basketball genes -- his father Jamie played at Miami University and was a state championship basketball coach at North College Hill High School.

His favorite athlete is D'Angelo Russell, favorite entertainer is Rod Wave, favorite book is The Great Gatsby, favorite movie is Major League and most-like-to-meet is Michael Jordan.

COACH'S QUOTE – "Evan is an outstanding student and leader. As a player, his versatility stands out. He can defend every position and can score on all three levels."
— Carl Kremer, Varsity Basketball Coach
