Lakota West's Varsity Coach Keith Castner has quite a talented star softball player in senior K.K. Mathis, who pitches and also plays third base or first base for the Firebirds. One of the top-ranked players in Ohio, she ranks first in program history for a season with slugging percentage and home runs (13). She is tied for first in program history for a season in extra-base hits (29) and bases on balls (30). She enters this season following a junior year to remember, during which K.K. helped her team earn an undefeated 18-0 record in conference play and the GMC championship, going 30-2 over all and making it to the Ohio state semifinals.

A first-team All-Ohio selection, K.K. was dominant both at the plate and in the circle last season. In the circle, she went 20-2 with eight shutouts, striking out 191 batters in 133 innings with a league-leading 1.47 ERA. At the dish, she hit a robust .519 with a league-leading 50 RBI, a league-leading 13 home runs (a single-season school record) and a league-leading 29 extra-base hits. K.K. was named GMC Softball Athlete of the Year. She also plays softball for the Tennessee Mojo-Fisher club team.

K.K. has had a strong start to this season, too, right up there with the statistical leaders in Cincinnati, in batting average, home runs, RBI, most pitching wins and strikeouts. In a 10-0 shutout win vs. Hamilton, she pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13 batters, to put her record at a then 9-3 on the season. Plus, she has around a .600 batting average.

A high-honors student (4.2 GPA) who is active in community service, K.K. sings in the Chorale and is a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Board. She will play softball collegiately at James Madison University.

Her favorite athlete is Jana Johns (Third base, U. of Oklahoma), favorite entertainer is Michael Jackson, favorite book is The Bible, favorite movie is Home Alone and most-like-to-meet is Jocelyn Alo (2021 Softball Player of the Year).
